Your wallet shows "2,000 USDT". Same icon, same name, a nice round amount. The buyer writes: "Sent, check it". But there isn't a single cent of real USDT on that address.
Anyone can issue their own token called "USDT" for a couple of dollars in fees. Your wallet shows the symbol the token's author chose, not the one Tether issues. There is one difference, and it decides everything: the contract address.
If even one character differs, it's not money.
In the AMLConsensus extended and full checks, fake stablecoins are flagged separately and not counted as dollars, and twin addresses are highlighted in the report.
